I'm not getting back to sleep! :(

My baby is 9 weeks old and is now only waking up once at about 2am or 3 am. I'm up for about an hour feeding, changing and soothing back to sleep and she goes off lovely, however the last 2 nights I can't get back to sleep!! I lie awake listening to my partner and baby sleeping getting more and more frustrated... Is this normal?

Oh god, I remember this! I hated it. And then you get more wound up, lying there thinking that you've got X hours sleep if you fall asleep now... or Y hours sleep now...

I actually found it worse when DC dropped to one waking. When they woke several times I was so exhausted I just passed out again, but with one wake it took me ages to fall back to sleep.

The two things that sort of helped me were having something to eat - ridiculous, but for some reason I'm always peckish in the middle of the night, even if I wouldn't be in the morning - and then reading up on some deep-breathing exercises. That seemed to help calm/wind me down in bed and help me to drift off a bit quicker.

Didn't want to read and run! I'm the same! Same age baby also. So frustrating!what time do you do last bottle? X

Piglet14 · 23/02/2015 17:16

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Last feed before we put her down is about 9-9.30pm so she's usually down by 10pm! So we go to bed then! She then usually wakes any time between 2 and 3am!

I do feel hungry I when I'm up too! Maybe I should grab something to eat, that could help! I thought the snaking should stop now, ha ha x x x

Sounds same as my little one! Do you feed her at 6.30-7ish too? Also, can I ask- when you feed her at 2am do you go on your phone?

Piglet14 · 23/02/2015 17:47

Yes my partner feeds her anytime between 6-7am! Yes I do tend to go on my phone! I have read today though that it's not a good idea!

I meant in the evening?? And no it's not good. Plays havoc with melatonin levels, but I just can't help myself. It makes the time pass x

FATEdestiny · 23/02/2015 18:20

The simple answer would be to leave your phone/tablet etc downstairs and on charge when you go to bed. Smile

Piglet14 · 23/02/2015 18:25

I think I might try leaving it downstairs!

Indeed it would!

I'm the same. Definitely do not use a screen of any kind, it really doesn't help.
Try to keep the lights low and be as quick as possible. Other than that I've not found much that helps, can't wait for this phase to be over, think we're almost there (fingers crossed! )

alwayssleepy · 23/02/2015 18:50

I find the screen is very bad for getting by back to sleep. And I read something about the blue light tells your brain that it must be morning time.

I use a breathing technique to go back to sleep, in for 3 secs, out for 3 secs, then in for 4 secs, out for 4 secs, and continue like that going longer till you get to ten. I never get to ten as I am asleep again.

Cooper11111 · 23/02/2015 19:51

I play the Harry Potter game. Think of character for each letter of the alphabet, then if I finish that- an alliterated name!! What a loser Grin

Piglet14 · 23/02/2015 20:06

I didn't like to say! Lol! Thank you for the tips, I hope it doesn't last long! I'm almost nervous to go to bed!

After nearly falling asleep on the sofa as she was going off, I could not sleep when I got into bed! I really hope this doesn't last long! I tried the breathing and eating something, the only thing that finally worked was going and lying down in the spare room!!
