What to do after Moses basket?

My dd is 9 weeks and already almost outgrowing her Moses basket, which is in our room at the moment. I don't really want to put her in a cot yet as it won't fit in our bedroom and I would be the one getting up for her in the night. At the moment I like feeding her lying down and then transferring her back to the Moses when finished but if cot was in another room I couldn't do this, also she's only tiny and I would worry! What would you recommend to put her in next as a transition to the cot?

Will a cot definitely not fit? Even if you shifted other furniture out for now?

A crib might last a bit longer, but not much.

I suppose we could rework the room and see, already have hardly anything except the bed in there but if she's going to grow out of a crib soon as well it may not be worth it. Annoying new builds with small rooms! Cot just seems really big at the moment but that's silly I suppose...

See there is 'cot doesn't fit' as a piece of furniture, and physically won't go in room. I had to climb over ours to get into bed and move it to open certain drawers.

But a crib is only a wee bit wider (quite a lot longer ) .DD1 had outgrown hers by 3.5 months.

climb round I meant. Didn't sit in the cotGrin

We bought a crib (gliding one from mothercare) and both DD's were in it until at least 6 months. And they're not small.

DH is now reminding me DD1 was in it till 9 months.

They both had bedrooms with cots but all set up and beautiful and I didn't want to take the cots down and put them up in my room, I used them for occasional daytime naps to get them used to it.

You can get some smaller type cots from ikea, they are reasonable,so would be ok for a transition cot maybe?

Would a travel cot be any good?

AbiBranning · 22/02/2015 20:18

we used a travel got with a mattress still took up some space, but easier to move

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/02/2015 20:18

DD is 50th centile for weight and 90th for height and was in her Moses basket until 6 months! It was cosy but she preferred that to all the space in the cot.

A crib will be bigger than a Moses basket but not much, and is generally a lot to spend for the sake of a couple of extra months. Can you rearrange your furniture so the cot jams in somehow?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/02/2015 20:19

Or a travel cot as PP's have mentioned.

Bedside crib from eBay?

hollyangel · 22/02/2015 20:28

We have this
www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Hyde-Crib/378938,default,pd.html

After friend recommended it who's baby was in it in their room for nearly 10 months.

My baby is 10 weeks and loves it!

heymammy · 22/02/2015 20:33

Same here GotToBe, DS was a 'healthy' size and was in his Moses basket until nearly 6 months. If your baby is uncomfy or not settling then move them but otherwise, there's no need.

At 6 months ish we got a teeny tiny cot from ikea as a stop-gap, was only about £35 I seem to remember and it was shoved up against my side of the bed...I could just about squeeze past it to my chest of drawers. Of course he ended up staying in that until we moved house when he was 14 months!

heymammy · 22/02/2015 20:37

Here it was ikea SNIGLAR www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30248537/ would this fit?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 22/02/2015 20:43

I think a lot depends on their sleeping position. Mine were whacking their arms off the bars of a crib very fast. That crib looks like ours and no way would any of them b have been comfortable past about 4 months
