Self Soothing Inspiration

Inspiring ideas needed please!

DS (5 months) has always been a bad day time sleeper, but after the nights deteriorated too, I started reading the no cry sleep solution. I've managed to cut out feeding to sleep and can be shush him back to sleep some times at night.

I can't seem to reduce down his reliance jigging/rocking/pram walk to get him to sleep day and night.

Last night when he woke, he was trying to get himself back to sleep for over an hour. Jerking his head from side to side trying to drift off, me shushing. Sometimes he can get back to sleep relatively quickly this way, other time not so easily. Last night was the latter!! I think how well this works is a function of how awake he is and how difficult it is to block out the world. Similarly when I am trying to get him down for a nap or to sleep in the evening, only jigging works to block out the world.

So I need some inspiration....what would help him off to sleep.

Jigging and shushing , holding him tight, shushing in cot ( works sometimes), letting him munch on my fingers (he's teething).

Patting (agitates him), hand holding, hand of chest, don't seem to work.

So, help, need some inspiration needed!

Hi OP...can I ask why you found it necessary to stop feeding him to sleep? That's my number 1 tool!

It started to be the easiest way to soothe him and he loved it! So when he began waking constantly at 4 months, I ended up feeding him 4-5 times between 11 and 6. Exhausting.

I think in retrospect I would have stopped or reduced feeding and jigging him to sleep at 3 months so he wasn't so attached to them for getting to sleep. Lesson you learn!

I use white noise when my 5 month old can't switch off, it calms him. However I still feed or sling to sleep the majority of the time and also now cosleep as he feeds 4 times a night on a good day so I need help too!
