Can anyone help with toddler sleep?

Our just turned two year old has never been the best sleeper (we've had spells of him sleeping through, but never consistently) and just doesn't seem to be getting any better.
He's great at bedtime and in bed by seven every night. He just wakes randomly through the night and will shout and cry until someone comes to tuck him back in. Occasionally he will ask for a drink (fair enough) or need help finding his teddy and comfort cloth, but generally as soon as one of us enters the room he calms down and will go straight back to sleep.
Sometimes this is once a night, more often it's sometimes several times and occasionally he will sleep right through. He's an early riser as well and normally up between 5.30-6.30 (he is left in his cot until after six though).

He still has one nap through the day approx 1 hour from about 12-12.30 ish.

Any advice? Were considering moving him into a proper bed to see if that helps.
