Does he need a nightlight?

Cut his nap down/out?

Is 9pm too late to be putting him to bed?

If my ds has a nap - I try and get him into pj's around 7ish -but then have a relaxed and long reading and wind down - usually asleep by 8.15-8.30pm.

If he doesn't have a nap - then he is in bed asleep for 7-7.30.

But I find that the earlier he gets to sleep - the better he sleeps.

we usually leave the door open and the light on in the hallway where he get the light....

father works from home and it's a good break leaving him sleeping 2 hours nap....
But maybe I shold try.....to cut..nap to one hour....

so no control crying.,...then

Who puts him to bed? I find dh has a much better success rate than me.
I'm out on a Wed night and when I come home - dh says - I heard him at his gate - but then I fell asleep and I don't know if he's still there!! Of course ds is fast asleep - but I don't know how long he waits at his gate!
What does your ds do to not go to bed? We had to put a stairgate on his doorway to keep him in - but if he gets really upset it means he is really tired and will go to sleep quite quickly with a bottle of milk and cuddle. If he's just playing around - he prob isn't too tired and I don't mind reading to him.

he just wants us to be with him and read another
book and another book and another book....

dh says also is better with him...and when I'm not around..........

I have not read whole thread but similar problme with ds.

drop or cut down on daytime sleep

make it a rule and stick to it of 2 stories only. Hard for first few days

sit outside room as he settles. everytime he gets out of room put him back in bed. say night night only and no eye contact. (this took 45 mins to an hour to start with)

25 watt night light

comfort toy to cuddle

cup of water by bed - and anything else - give no excuse for getting up! (DS then strted to deliberately wet the bed...... for a while - till he saw it got no response other than quick change of bed and a night night....

once you are ready to leave be firm and leave.....after a few nights they get the idea... but have to say DS was a tough cookie.

Even now waits till in bed to do his poo... and he is 3!

I sometimes use the excuse to leave the room - saying i'm going for a wee/answer the phone/bring the washing in. Sometimes it works as if he's tired he'll go to sleep before you get back.
or I would be firm and say no more mummy reading, you can read yourself - I'll leave the door open. He will sometimes muck around and ask for more till eventually he will start to tantrum - when I know then he is tired and is easy to get him to sleep. I prefer the tantrum - cos then I know he's tired and its only a matter of time for him to fall asleep.
