Won't sleep in crib - help!

It may be too son to worry, but can't get my newborn DS to settle at night. Only 3 days old - tell me it will get better!

He's happy to slep if being cuddled, but won't settle in the crib at all. Managed a few hours sleep by putting him in with us but even then he's not that happy unless he's being held. Plus I'm bfing, so feeding a lot of the time.

He's pretty placid during the day - any ideas?

This is totally, totally normal.
Just let him sleep close to you.
This won't last forever, promise.

Remember he was inside you, "held" 24/7 not so long ago.
He needs time to adjust, and it takes a good while.
Enjoy his softness, this stage is over so quickly...

Co-sleep - it's just what he needs and lovely for you too.. It's the best way to get a good night's sleep. Baies need thatsecurity, and it helps regulate their breathing too.

Thanks - hormones not helping at the moment as I'm convinced I'm doing everything wrong! We're both napping during the day as well, so it could be a lot worse . And he is gorgeous... it's just sleeplessness plus stitches plus milk coming in is a bit overwhelming.

Day 3 is notorious for giving you a bit of a downer.
Go easy, just take him to bed with you and try to get some rest!

awwwwww swiz, Know how u feel,I also didnt know what was right and wrong 1st time around.Dd2 wasnt impressed with her crib either afew weeks ago, despite it being next to me . Emkanas thread had me all in a tizzee a few weeks ago too and Im on my 2nd babs, but all because I was such an A type person , liking routine and structure: Timing feeds , sleep etc . This babes however has really chilled me. I have enjoyed having her with me in bed ,sleeping,feeding and cuddling all night.It so very comforting and lovely. Although now 8wks I have started a little routine now and shes in her cot early part of evening and night, but she comes into our bed early hrs of the morning and its lovely to doze that way till I have to get up with dd1 (3yrs old). SOOOO much better that way , time enough for sleep training etc.

If you do want ds to sleep for a little while in his crib try tucking something in that smells of you.

Managed t o post this 3 times, so lost track of replies! Will stick with co-sleeping for the time beinf, as it's the only way I can get some sleep myself! Have manged to get DS in crib for a little while when swaddled, so he may get used to it in time. Thanks for all the replies - feeling a lot more relaxed about it now

I put dd in her pram [old fasioned carrycot style] as she hated her moses basket. I think it was just too big, she felt more snuggly in the pram. I also put a milk stained tshirt in with her.
