Nightmares at 14 months?

Last night DS whose suffering bit with cough etc brought into bed and after about thirty mins started getting agitated, wriggling, we tried consoling him a bit, he was trying to sit up and when they did, was reaching out (as if to be picked up?) away from DW and me towards end of the left end of the bed.

DW has been joking that he was reaching out to a ghost! Bit more consoling and then just fell asleep.

I don't have the answer but would like to watch this thread because I have the same question!

My 16 month old wakes in the night screaming and inconsolable, looking round the room frantically etc etc. only I can comfort him. Eventually he'll calm down and once he does it's straight to sleep as if nothing happened. Not teething or ill, so I'm wondering about nightmares or even night terrors, no idea what age they start.
