Angry 17mo - any ideas?

I know you're not meant to describe toddlers as angry Grin but DD is fighting sleep by screaming her head off, and it isn't distress or upset, it is because she really wants to stay awake.

Previous routine (after much effort on my part at 10mo to stop rocking her): bath, bottle in cot, dummy, asleep in max 20 mins or so, with me sat next to her until she goes to sleep.

New routine: bath, bottle in cot, dummy, DD springs to her feet within seconds to make sure she doesn't fall asleep. If we try and make her lie down, much screaming, ignoring her eventually results in much screaming. She wants to get out and come downstairs.

I say she isn't distressed but she is getting in such a state, she is sweating, which can't be good for her!

So far, we have either given up and gone for a drive or wait it out until she is so exhausted she just falls asleep the minute we cuddle her in the rocking chair. This doesn't work until she is running on empty though.

Any ideas? for our neighbours sake if nothing else!
