hi - im a new mum with a seven week old baby...from around 9pm - 3am every single night she is wide awake, cluster feeding a playing. once she goes down to sleep she does sleep well (for a few hours at a time). can anyone please tell me when babies start to normalise a routine where they will go to bed at the typical baby / child bedtime of around 7 or 8pm? i appreciate all babies are different, etc etc but none i know has a three year old that stays up until 1am just hanging out so i guess things start to normalise after a while and I'm just wondering at roughly what stage babies start to recognise that its night time and sleep rather than just playing, etc? i have absolutely no help with my baby during the week and these 6 hour stretches when i need to sleep have me on my knees right now! i just need know when a change may be in sight here!! thanks so much!! xx

Mine was about 6 months. Before that they're not meant to be on their own so it was only then I was comfortable putting him to bed before me. It was gradual though so not 7.30 til about 8 months

DD started to settle when she was around 10 weeks going from (longest stretch) midnight-5am. She then started to make that longer eg. till 6am, then 7am. Once settled in that I brought her bed time back myself (11pm for a few nights, then 10pm etc) and at 16 weeks she goes down between 8-9pm and wakens at around 8am.

Some nights she doesn't settle as easily. The past week she's been waking for a feed around midnight. Tonight at 11.30pm.

Mine gradually formed a bedtime from about 3 months, although to start with it was midnight. It crept forwards until by about 5 months she was reliably down for the night at 7 after a marathon feed, and jumped to 6.30 as soon as she started crawling.

Am following with interest. Dd3 is 10 weeks old, her natural bedtime seems to be about 11pm (!) after a feed but am desperate for it to move earlier so I can reclaim a bit of an evening! I thinly my other dds started to have an earlier bedtime around 12 weeks but can't remember how.

DD1 was about 4 months. We started to do a bath every evening and then she went into her crib in our room (no lights). DH and I took it turn about to stay with her and we watched TV on our iPads. We did this until 6 months and, at that point, she went into her own room and we got to sit downstairs together!

DD2 is 9 weeks so we've got a while to go. She still hangs out downstairs until I am ready for bed. She is ebf so it's been different as DD1 was mix fed.
