I know this doesn't seem like a problem but I've received conflicting advice.

I was initially waking my baby to fit in 3 naps a day which I read is best at this age. However, my mum has asked why I'm waking him and she wouldn't etc. Since then I have been putting him down at 9.30 ish and he just sleeps and sleeps. Today I woke him after 2.5 hrs.

I'm also having to wake him after the same amount of time in the afternoon in order that he is tired at night.

He is sleeping well at night waking for 1 feed.

I'm concerned because I read if a baby sleeps too long they won't have time to do all the things they need to develop properly. Am I being ridiculous? Should I wake him?

Thanks in advance.

Don't worry - sleep is also vital for development and I think it's best to follow your baby's lead.

I tend to never let DS nap for more than 2hours-ish as it does effect his nighttime sleep. But your baby is still so little, I'd be tempted to let him do what suits him until it seems like it's making a difference to his nights.

Babies of that age do sleep for the majority of the time. He'll naturally find his own pattern as he grows older, and I would just go with the flow if I were you. Even as adults, some people need more sleep than others - don't juge your baby by what everyone else's is doing.
