Co-sleeping crib recommendation?

Not sure if this is in the right place, I wasn't sure where to put it..

I am 29 weeks pregnant with baby number 2, and am looking to buy co-sleeping crib that attaches to our bed, and would love to hear some recommendations? I've looked at the Troll, Snuzpod, Chicco Next to me, and a couple of others.

I have a couple of questions about them..

Is there always a gap between the baby's mattress and yours, or does the zip down side cover this? Or should you lay a blanket over the top too?

Would you use one that doesn't attach to the bed, as some of those don't, they just stand next to the adult bed, and I'd worry the baby would fall in the gap?

Not all have a zip up side (the chicco doesn't I don't think) is this therefore unsafe if by my bed and I go out of the room as baby could roll onto my bed and into the covers?

Sorry for all the questions, my last baby slept right next to me in our bed, but as he still comes into our bed sometimes I'm keen for the new baby to have their own space beside me.

Watching with interest! I'm also expecting DC2 and thinking if investing in one.

I looked into all these but in the end just bought a cheap compact cot from kiddicare and drilled extra holes to bring the mattress base to the same height as our divan bed.

Yes, there is always a gap between the bed and cot; some people stuff a blanket down the far gap to wedge the mattresses together. I found it didn't really matter the handful of times she deigned to sleep in it

The bed nest side comes down across the gap but has a bar in it. One of the reasons we didn't bother getting it after having one for ds.

We have a Snuzpod and it's serving us well; has plenty of holes to adjust height, and when the side is folded down into the gap there is a portion of it (under the mesh) reinforced with plastic which sort of bridges the gap.

Chicco does not leave a gap between the beds. It does have a zip side but you cant access the zip panel while it is strapped to your bed. It didn't seem possible to roll out of it as the baby matress is an inch lower than mine. You could just move the covers to be on the safe side or convert it to a regular crib once your baby gets to rolling stage. I bought this crib because i was worried about having a gap. Pleased with it so far

We had the bednest and I liked it very much. I left a review on the site for it I think, let me see if I can find it.

We found that there's no gap with the bed (perhaps a result of our bed base), it adjusts incrementally in height so you can get an exact match and the mesh side comes down to form a bridge, or you can have the mesh side half up, so there's a slight barrier to prevent the baby moving into your bed iyswim. Look it up, it really is an ingenious design.

I like my Chicco too, as Kit says there is no gap as the mattress sits lower than yours. It is a pain that you have to take off the bed to put the side up, out its only 2 clips to undo and then you can unroll the side and make it a normal crib. I like the fact that it doubles as a travel cot too. Means she is still in the same bed when we go away

misog reminded me that the bed nest doubles as a moses basket too, easy to move around the house for daytime sleep, in line with current SIDS advice.

I have the Chicco and echo what the others say above. It's a pretty good sized crib too. I bought the Sleepyhead which fits perfectly inside it. I don't see how baby could roll out but if you were willing to splash out on the Sleepyhead that would solve that problem.

Hmm.. So the chicco and bednest both serve well? I'll have another look at both of those then!

A friend is lending me her sleepyhead actually, so I will have that too :)
