19mo boy won't sleep in cot - help!

All of a sudden, my 19-month-old son won't sleep in his cotbed. We had a double bed in his room that I would occasionally sleep in with him when I was desperate - he has always been a terrible sleeper. Yesterday we removed the bed entirely to remove that option, but it hasn't helped. He'll sleep in his cotbed at naptime no problem, but at bedtime he messes around, singing the ABCs and Baa Baa Black Sheep, until he gets upset and starts screaming. Last night he ended up in our bed because we couldn't take it anymore.

Is it time to take off the sides of his cotbed? He just seems so young for that... Any other tips? We haven't had an evening together for weeks and I just want to catch up on Scandal and have some Wine, dammit! Thanks.

Take the sides off. See how it goes.
Our ds hated his cot and was in a bed well by 19mths. Since then he's slept great!! Wish I did it earlier!! Put pillows on the ground beside bed if your afraid he'll fall out.

Oh and we put a gate on his bedroom door and He'd wander about some evenings but at least couldn't get out of bedroom.he'd always end up back in bed though.
