Sleepyhead vs Moses basket ??

Hi I'm new to both mumsnet and parenting (due 7th Dec) and have ordered a Moses basket as I thought you took this around the house during the day to put baby in...however I've since read amazing reviews about the sleepyhead but wondered if I could therefore send back the Moses basket and just use sleepyhead ... But would I then need to hire a bedside crib for beside my bed to place it in overnight?
I'd really appreciate some advice...xx

We have used a sleepyhead for dd2 and it is so so much better than the Moses basket we had for dd1.

Dd1 hated the Moses and then grew out of it at 6 weeks anyway.

Dd2 has been in the sleepyhead since day 1 and sleeps in it beautifully. She is already sleeping in 4 hour chunks at 2 weeks old.

We use the sleepyhead in a cot bed which is next to our bed. As you would need to buy a cot anyway when your dc outgrew the Moses basket could you do the same if there is space in your bedroom?

Love the sleepyhead. Have it in cot next to my bed - with one side left off so I can reach over easily in the night. Much much better than the Moses I had for ds1.

There he is at 3 months. Getting a bit big but it's so nice and snug around him when he sleeps will keep him in it for a few months still.

Dp wants to get the sleepyhead Grande which on reflection I maybe should have got from the start. I haven't seen it in person though so can't quite figure out how big it is and if it's worth it.

Ok this is really helpful, I will return the Moses basket as it only arrived yesterday and will get a small cot to use beside my bed for the first 6 months. Can I ask another question... Can the sleepyhead also be used as a changing mat? X

Any advice about what type of bedside crib it will fit inside? I have been looking on the NCT site at bedside cribs as our bedroom is small and we only have 50cm space at the side of the bed... X

I really wouldn't use it as a changing mat because the covers can't be tumble dried so if it got dirty it's not a quick job to get it clean and dry. In my experience babies frequently pee and poo midway through nappy changes and make an almighty mess.

We bought an additional cover incase of sick and poo explosions but they are not cheap.

Also I wouldn't find it particularly hygienic to change a baby's bum on the same surface it sleeps on. Changing mats are normally wipe clean.

We have one which we put inside the Chicco Next to Me crib next to our bed. Fits perfectly.

Great - I will return the Moses basket, buy the Chico and get a separate changing mat! Thanks for all your help.

One more question - can yo just grobags with the sleepyhead? X

Yes I agree wouldn't use as a changing mat. Ikea do a really good large cloth with a waterproof underside that makes a great changing mat on bed or sofa or carpet and folds up tiny for your bag. Screenshot here:

I have used grobags with sleepyhead. The cot on my previous Picture is the standard Ikea one but with one side left off and secured underneath with bungee cord instead. It is the same height as the mattress on my bed so I just pushed it up alongside. As soon as he is rolling I'll have to put the side on so I wouldn't necessary recommend it but I already had the cot from ds1. I often just put the sleepyhead on the bed next to me as well if dp is on the sofa!

The changing mat isn't wipe clean but machine washes so I just have two of them. You also get nice small changing mats with most changing bags and I have one left from ds1 and bought a new changing clutch this time which came with a mat so I rarely get the big mat out that I have left from ds1.
