Is my 10month old getting enough sleep

My son is now 10 months old and is still waking early in the morning (approx 5am).
He goes to bed about 7.30 - 8pm and we have no problem in him settling on his own. However, he may wake up a few times in the night, but we can usually settle him down very quickly with putting his dummy and 'sshhhing'. He used to wake at 5am on the dot every day and actually seemed wide awake and had his morning nap approx 9.30-10am. For the past few weeks he has begun waking earlier and I will leave him to cry for approx 1 hour (i check there is nothing wrong first), but I end up getting up with him because I wonder if he has had enough sleep.
I don't think he wakes for his morning feed because he will wait up to an hour when we go downstairs before he gets wittery.
I am thinking of controlled crying because I don't think we can go on much longer. Is he getting enough sleep?
Am going to bed now, before my early wake. Would appreciate any advice/guidance.

have you tried feeding him upstairs and seeing if he'll settle down again? or tried bringing him into bed with you?

tooharsh

Hi. He sleeps at approx 9.00am (during the walk to school) for about an hour and half and then approx 2.30pm for another hour - hour and half. He then goes to bed approx 7.30-8.00pm.

Have tried feeding him in his room and trying to settle him again, but he doesn't settle and it seems to wake him. Also tried (although only a few times) in our bed, but he just wants to climb on me and DH.

tooharsh would you think that maybe the hour and a half in the morn at 9am is allowing him catch up on the hour and half from 5-6.30 am? i would shorten this nap on him, your are probably back from the shcool run and he dozes on but i would wake him. its only a quick nap and he still gets another one later in the day and see if that helps, he may nap earlier than 2.30 for you.

if he sleeps from 2.30 for an hour and a half thats 4pm when he wakes, its not that long til bed at 7.30/8, 4hours.
my ds at that stage was awake from about 2.30 (his nap being 2hrs) til 8pm and slept til
7.30/8am.

i know its tricky wiht a school run so i can appreciate that for you.
