Where does your newborn sleep during the day?

First time mum here with 10 day old DS. DH is on paternity leave at the moment and we've been muddling through during the day with baby either asleep on one of us/feeding (constantly!) or lying in his Sleepyhead on the sofa next to us. If he's awake and alert we put him on his playmat. At night he comes to bed when we do and sleeps in his crib next to our bed. We seem to have got into some kind of routine already at night as he wakes every 3 hours to feed but during the day we seem to just do whatever......and I worry that I should be paying more attention to when and where he sleeps?

DS is nearly 4 now but he used to sleep - on us, in the pram, on the floor (on blankets). Anywhere is fine at that age, don't worry too much, he will feel secure and safe being near you. He is so young he doesn't know what is day and what is night yet but he will learn.

We never had set nap times for DS, he just wasn't one of those babies and we liked the freedom of going out and him napping in the pram. It eventually fell into one morning-ish and one afternoon-ish but don't worry right now. 'Routines' will change from day to day, just go with the flow, it will all work out in the end.

What you're doing sounds fine to me. Ds slept on me/dh, in the pram or if I was able to out him down then in his Moses basket but that was rare!

Mine slept every nap on me until 3.5 months because he would not stay asleep when transferred down, so just gave up trying to transfer him and enjoyed the cuddles.

Mostly in a cot in the living room then up in our room at night. Mine wouldn't nap on someone and instinctively rolled onto his side when laid down so a cot seemed best fir him.

DD is 9 weeks. When we can, she sleeps in her carry cot, otherwise she sleeps on us.
