Jerking in sleep

Lo jerks every few seconds when I put her down stopping her getting restful sleep, she gives up after about 20 times. She hates swaddling, and even if I hold her arms, it still wakes her. I know babies jerk when they transition into sleep, so how do you help them not wake themselves? Is swaddling the only answer or do you have a trick?

Have you tried a Love to Dream Swaddle? It's a cross between a Swaddle and sleeping bag so baby can get a bit of movement and not feel confined but it prevents them from startling themselves awake. They have excellent reviews on jo jo maman bebe.
