3 month old cries at bedtime

My dd cries at bedtime. She goes down ok for her naps (complains for no more than 10 minutes and then nods off), but cries at night. Once she is asleep, she's great and is no problem all night, but getting her to sleep for the night takes a couple of hours every day.

I have tried re-jigging her naps so that she isn't overtired at night and I am careful to ensure that she doesn't have wind from her pre-bed feed. I have concluded that either she is crying because she does not want to be left alone or because she can hear the neighbours (we live in a terraced house and they all come back from work/school in time for her bedtime). Short of moving and never leaving her alone at bedtime again, I am not sure what I can do to sort this one out. I have even considered feeding her to sleep, but her eyes pop open as soon as I put her in her cot.

Has anyone else had a baby like this, and does anyone have any suggestions? I am worried that crying for a couple of hours has become part of her routine.

Thanks

I have co-slept with all of mine - it works a treat.

My dd1 was like this, she grew out of it at about 5 mo.
