baby sleeping bags

Just looking at baby sleeping bags for my 3 month old and there seems to be a massive price difference. Perhaps I'm being dim but is it worth paying up for these or do the cheaper ones do the same job?

I found cheap ones and posher ones the same. Only thing to look out for IMO is how they fasten- I spend a lot of time cursing the two zips things on an ikea one! Choose the easiest way to do up and base your decision on that!

Cheaper ones are fine, they all have to pass the same safety standards. Having said that, I had hand me down Grobags for dc1 which were still in good condition after doing both my dc, whereas some cheaper new ones went lumpy and bobbly and a zip broke after just one dc.

I used asda ones and they were fab

I have a grobag and an asda one which was half the price, they are the same apart from sizewise the grobag seems to be roomier.

The actual grobag ones do seem to last well and wash. The also fasten easy compared to some. You can usually get them in T K Maxx too.

Amazon are good for Grobags, as are Tesco.
Be careful of the sizing with some of the TK Maxx ones.

I got the kiddiecare own branded ones. Cheaper and nicer designs IMO, the actual growbag ones look a bit garish.

We picked up a couple in T K Maxx for very reasonable sums (£10-15). I've got a couple of Growbags 2nd hand and I find them a lot more generous. I've got a Primark (again 2nd hand and still in ok nick!) 6-12month one that my very average 9mo has pretty much grown out of - it is the same length as most 0-6m. Growbags, on the other hand, come in a 6-18month size and he could probably still squeeze into the smaller size.

I think gro bags are much better. I would rather buy a second hand gro bag from eBay for the same price as a new one from anywhere else.

I much prefer wool sleeping bags to grobags. They're breathable so less sweaty than with synthetic sleeping bags, and they are more responsive to body temperature so babies/toddlers are less likely to overheat. And if a nighttime nappy leaks, I've found that the wool tends to keep the damp inside the sleeping bag and baby stays warm (assuming you don't spot the leak until morning) whereas I've had grobags soak through and leave baby quite chilly.

They aren't cheap, but you don't need to buy multiple bags at different togs so the cost works out the same (or cheaper). You use the same woollen sleeping bag year-round and just vary what's worn underneath - vest, sleepsuit, both, etc.
