Bednest-what am I doing wrong?!

When you open the side of the bednest the hard edge at the top of the 'door' comes some way across the mattress. This is really uncomfy to sleep on so it means I sleep further away from DS than I would like to. I envisaged it being soft so I could just lie on it. When people talk about scooping their babies from the bednest to the bed for feeding, how does that work? Surely the baby is then lying on the hard edge? Am I missing something obvious here?! I tried folding it under the bednest mattress instead of on top of my mattress but it doesn't fit under there. I feel like it's either a useless con or I'm being really stupid and missing something obvious. DA is only 1 day old so it may be the latter!

I always found this with mine too. I ended up folding a blanket up to put over it! I was probably missing a trick too though

Glad it's not just me! Seems like a really obvious design flaw that noone talks about in reviews. I can't understand it...

I discovered my DS could roll/squirm out from a very early age, so I always popped the side up. I don't think I ever got to sleep on the side.

I used a blanket too, could never manage to scoop either but still ended up loving it :)

My dd rolled herself out of it when she was tiny so I always have the 'door' half up. I find scooping difficult too - it's a funny angle! We love it all the same, I'm dreading her growing out of it and having to move into the big cot in her bedroom.

I folded the door and then put it up - you can still touch the baby but the door is out of the way.

We used it open halfway. Doesn't intrude into mattress - and it's not a sleep surface - there's a crib mattress for that. It's a bridge between the mattresses. We never had this problem. x

So is it not designed to be a three sided crib at all? I thought the whole point of it was that you could either have the sides all up, or one half up, or one down. If you're scooping baby into bed across the down side then unless you have the most enormous bed I don't see how they could fail but to end up lying on it...maybe that's the problem actually, we only have a double. Maybe it's better with a bigger bed. We've semi solved the problem for tonight by putting a sheepskin on top of the mattress and sliding DS on the sheepskin so he can't feel the hard edges, but I'm pretty sleep deprived and don't know whether sheepskins are safe to sleep on like that long term so will need to look it up in the morning.

Sheepskins are fine to sleep on. You could also have DS next to you in the bed and not worry about the sleep nest but I assume you have a good reason for wanting to use it! Hope you figure out something that works for you. And congratulations

Yes it's a 3 or 4 sided co-sleeper. One opening side panel can be folded in half then lowered onto your mattress. That way it still crosses any gap and is less intrusive into your bed. LO is still meant to sleep on the mattress in the Bednest, not on the open side panel.

Oh duh, I didn't think about folding the other side and bringing that down! (told you I was sleep deprived). That definitely means less space to cross!

Yes. It's the side with the cross bar half way that is meant to be by the bed. That way there is very little space taken up as it can be folded in half when on the bed. It's only needed fully open if your mattress is set in a bed frame. I had a very good tutorial at the baby show. Your message did make
