HELP! WHY THIS SUDDEN CHANGE???

My DD is 20 months old and has ALWAYS been a good sleeper (14 hrs a day). For a week now, we've been putting her to bed as normal, following her bedtime routine, but as soon as we lower her into her cot, she screams! We can be upto 3 hours trying to settle her off.. when she finally goes off, we can wake up after a few hours with her screaming again. We bring her into our bed and she sees it as pleytime, bouncing on our pillows, etc. She'll seem happy enough, so we put her back in her cot, she screams. Her daytime nap is also the same, yet she's SO tired. What's wrong with her? I don't think she's in pain, she normally loves her cot. She hasn't waken due to a nightmare either, before this happened, so... HELP.. ANY IDEAS?

My 24 month old has often had these lapses even though he too is normally a great sleeper - he just seemed to go through them and out the other. Really couldn't figure out what had cause dit but just as I started to lose my hair he stopped again. Weird. I'm sure someone on here will have a proper answer for you. (DS asleep right now, peaceful s anything... yours will too![mile]

My 14 week old has also just suddenly changed her sleep pattern. Apart for the first couple of weeks she has slept well at night - just waking once and then waking again at 7/7.30. Sleeps during the day haver always been harder but she finally settled into 3 naps a day of about 30 minutes each morning, midday and afternoon. Although most of my friends couldn't believe it was so little but I coped. She dropped her middle of the night feed at 11 weeks and we now give her a bottle of formula at 10.30/11.00. She slept through for about a week until 6.30ish. We are now on holiday for one month and after one week she started waking up at 5.00am and not wanting to go back to sleep. At the same time she has dropped her daytime sleeps almost altogether and just has a 5 minute cat nap every 1 - 1/5 hrs. Although I know IT IS JUST A PHASE - I am finding it really hard because she is tired and so quite grumpy. She just won't go down in her cot for a sleep. Any advice?

Has she been ill recently? Our son started this (screaming in the night rather than being difficult to settle) a while after chicken pox and we took him to a cranial osteopath. He was fine afterwards.

No she hasn't been ill. The changes that have coincided have been her not waking at 3/4am for a feed and also she is going to bed in the evening earlier than ever before at 7/7.30. I guess the obvious answer is try to put her to bed later but I just can't keep her awake at that time of night whereas in the day I can't get her to sleep!

She was that difficult trying to get her to have her daytime nap today, we gave up & took her downstairs. Do you think if we dropped her day nap she would sleep better? I would have thought with the nights getting darker, she'd probably want to sleep earlier...? Is no-one else experiencing the same?
