Any solutions to the 'can't really manage without a daytime nap but doesn't sleep' stage

Ds is 2.8, he won't sleep at home any more in the day since being in a bed (to anyone thinking of putting their child in a bed before they absolutely NEED to - DON'T!) He is a nightmare in the afternoons but will only go off in the car - I can't drive him round though as have dd as well. He only needs 30 minutes sleep to be manageable but is awful without it. Any suggestions?

will he not just settle on a bean bag and maybe nod off if he has a book or something

Earlier bedtime?

`Quiet time' (e.g. watching TV) instead of his nap?

This phase passes quite quickly BTW, he will soon be able to manage perfectly well without a nap.

Oh- I remember that. Nightmare! Nothing you can do once they decide the nap has gone, i found. I did bring bedtime forward to as early as I dared though. They do adapt eventually but it's horrid while it lasts. Sympathies.

I used to put on a video (e.g Little Mermaid), lie down on sofa, DD would lie down too, and sometimes would fall asleep. If not, the rest seemed to work. Of course I was 8 mth pg at the time, so sometimes I would fall asleep too !!

Hermykne - hollow laughter,er no I wish.......
Gingernut - How quickly?! He has multiple tantrums throughout the afternoon at the moment. I have become quite adept at the fireman's lift to the room maneouvre but saying that am getting really fed up with him and it isn't his fault if he's just knackered.......

Oh and he will sleep for 1/2 hour at nursery but I've no idea how they manage to get him to do it as I just can't.
