Cot to bed?

DS2 was 2 in march and he still has the sides up on his cot bed. He's climbed out once, months ago but hasn't done it since, mainly because I think it frightened him!
Anyway, DC3 is due December so I'm thinking we should get a move on and take the sides off pretty soon.
When did you take the sides off/move your little'un to a big bed and how did it go?

First DC didn't take off til about 3 1/2! He didn't really seem phased and climbed in and out on occasion via the bedside cabinet but was strangely wise and didn't do it at bedtime/mornings (lucky) . When we took them off nothing changed, in fact he still kind of waits to ask to get out of bed in the morning, bless him.

DC2 I am debating the same as you but that is because bed and nights are such a palaver I am clutching at straws to solve it though keep telling her she needs to do good sleeping to get a 'big girl' bed. Its a mess.

Friends of ours seem to have had different successes. Youngest has had sides off (2.3) and was up and down for ages in a cheeky way (not wailing like my DC) but seems to have got the hang of it now. They dropped the nap though at the same time. Does your DS still have a nap Loveallmy?

He's napping as I type. On the rare occasion he hadn't had a nap, he's awake during the night. He didn't have one yesterday, went down without a fight at 7 then midnight was screaming MUMMY DADDY!! That was fun. He will sleep for 2-3 hours in the day if we let him!
We're going away for the weekend so will probably take the sides off next week and see how he goes. Worst case scenario, we put them back on...

Yes, that's prob the best idea. I am wondering if we will do the same but envisage us having to put them on and off again quite a bit and that's no mean feet (feat?!) as its a fiddle!

Yes I rember watching OH struggling( and swearing) a fair bit putting it together so can imagine he will do the same taking the sides off! I'm not getting involved! Hehe
