Baby sleeping on mattress on floor

Hi, we are due to go on holiday and I am desperately trying to save space in the car, so trying to think of alternatives to a travel cot for my 4 month old. There wIll be a spare mattress in the apartment we are renting, can anyone give any advice on why we would not be able to use this on the floor in our room for our 4 month old? She is currently in a cot bed although she is quite a wriggler she can not yet turn on her side. Thanks.

A mattress on the floor will be fine to sleep on :) Just make sure you baby proof the room if she can roll around to reach stuff (4 months is too young for crawling, right?).

If you're taking a pram with a carrycot, that's another option?

I think some babies like to be IN something to sleep. Mine never gave a toss and I always just improvised sleeping arrangements when we went away. By which I mean, she basically slept on the floor.

I'd test it before you go if you have a spare mattress, would get her into the hang of it so you hopefully don't g multiple wake ups on holiday.

Mine never had cots. They slept on futon mattresses on the floor as soon as they grew out of baskets. So easy- you can just roll it up and chuck it in the car and their bed's ready whenever they need it.

Or you can get pop up cot beds- I use one when camping. They are made out of tent material so fold up really thin and small. Just pad the bottom out with more blankets to make it a bit comfier.,

If there are any big drawers in the apartment you could pad that out with sheets and it would make a safer space than a mattress. 4 month olds roll and could end up rolling off the mattress and into a position they can't get out of and possibly dangerous position. It's a very small risk but I would go for a pop up cot which takes up very little space.

We had one of these. It folds up tiny. Best thing ever
