6 week old sleeping on tummy...

My 6 week old Ds will only sleep on his tummy! If I put him down on his back he is up hourly during the night but if I put him on his belly he can go up to 5 hours.

Hv advises against sleeping on tummy. Has any one else had this? Any advice,

TIA

Yep. Get an Angel care monitor. Tummy sleeping can give a lot of relief to babies with reflux. If he's able to get onto his tummy himself you won't be able to stop him. The monitor will give you peace of mind.

Both my DCs were tummy sleepers.

When I told the HV that I'd given up trying to put DC1 down on his back as he'd only sleep on his tummy she said "oh good! I'm not allowed to advise parents to put their child down on their tummy because it's against the SIDS recommendations but some babies just hate being on their backs!"

Make sure you follow all the other SIDS recommendations and if you're anxious get an Angelcare monitor (I did - saved my sanity with PFB!) but let him sleep the way he wants to.

Yes DD refused to sleep on her back, even in the hospital the midwives put her on her side. for the first four weeks of her life she didn't sleep more than 20 minutes unless she was being held, the second she was put down on her back she was awake and screaming. She was fine on her front, and my HV said some babies do just refuse to sleep on their backs. I also think that it was safer for her to sleep on her front that it was for her to sleep on my chest on the sofa all things considered.

DS on the other hand sleeps on his back and point blank refuses to sleep on his front! Two very different babies...

Thanks for your replies!

Forgot to mention he does have reflux so i think it probably is more comfy for him on his tummy

I have tried to order an angelcare monitor on line but waiting for them to come back in stock (should be sometime this week)

He is currently on his Moses basket on his tummy so will leave him like that, I know I will be checking all night until we get the angelcare monitor lol!

You can get a monitor that clips to the nappy.
