Advice on naps please?

Hi,

I've read the forums loads but never posted before, I'm a bit nervous!

I'm a first time mom, and my daughter is 11 weeks old tomorrow and has always slept well at night. The problem is that she doesn't particularly like daytime naps and isn't in any sort of routine with them. She fights against sleep, and the only way I've found to get her to nap is by bouncing her in her bouncy chair. She'll perhaps have a couple of half hour naps in the morning, and every other day will have a two hour nap in the afternoon, sometimes more. I've tried other things like putting her back to bed, I've let her sleep on me, I've tried letting her nap on the sofa too, but nothing makes her as happy as the bouncing chair. It's not like she isn't tired, she is, she just doesn't want to sleep!

I suppose my question is, should I just carry on as I am if she's happy? I'm worried that I'm getting her into bad habits, and that she'll always want to be rocked, but she's still so young! Will she grow out of it?

I wouldn't worry about bad habits at this age. If she's getting enough sleep to be happy and is sleeping well at night that's all you need to worry about. If you want to work on self settling, to avoid future problems, you could do that at bedtime while sticking with whatever works for naps.
