LO has always been a crap sleeper. Never slept more than 4 hours. Averages 5 or 6 wake ups per night (had a couple of good night's with only 3 wake ups not long ago), comfort boob back to sleep (co sleep from about 11pm. In cot till then).

He's 8 months and in the last week has cut his first 2 teeth, mastered rolling onto front, started sleeping on his front, is walking in his walker, is almost crawling, has started waving. There's probably more too.

This has got to be why he's not going down to bed. And why we're back to waking every hour.

My DD was the same at that age a rubbish sleeper - standing in cot and thinking she was ever so clever every 1-2 hours through the night. We used homeopathy for teething which helped much more than the calpol and also acupressure and baby massage to help her fall asleep and sleep deeper. Here's my blog post on it if you're interested.

good luck!

Thanks. I've actually had a look at some of your writing. I tried the forehead acupressure point. He seemed to hate being touched there, wriggling away from me. Strange, as he otherwise likes my touch to help him sleep- strokes, massage. I wander could it be causing him some discomfort? Do you have any other links which I could read up on? Thanks.
