Ready to drop to one nap?

My eleven month old currently wakes at 7am then we put him down for a nap at 10am. This usually lasts about an hour and a quarter. I used to then put him down for afternoon nap at three...this then moved to four and now he won't go to sleep until 5pm! I normally wake him at 6pm and then he goes back to bed at 730 and sleeps through the night.

I am wondering whether I should be pushing the morning nap back until say 11, and letting him sleep a couple of hours and thus dropping th afternoon nap. Has anyone else done this? What was your little ones routine at around this age?

Thanks

I pushed DS' morning nap back until 11am when we dropped from two to one nap, but not until he was 18months. However, like you, I found the afternoon nap was getting later and he was waking very grouchy afterwards, so it was a relief when it went. Maybe push morning nap to 1030, cut out afternoon nap and move bedtime to 7pm?

We had the same problem at that age too. What worked for us was shortening the first nap (gradually) until it's only about half an hour. This allowed more time to fit in the second nap.

We did (roughly):
Up at 7:30am, nap at 10:30/11 for half an hour, nap at 2:30/3pm for as long as she wanted (usually around 90 mins), bed at 7:30pm.

This helped smooth out the transition from 2 to 1 naps.
