18 month old nap - how long?

My little monkey has recently come on leaps and bounds sleeping through the night, and generally sleeps from 7 -5.15 - 6.30, with the odd night waking still (a huuuuge improvement on a few months ago when he was still waking several times most night)

He just has one nap at 11am ish, and will normally sleep for 1.5 -2.5 hours.

I wake him normally if he is heading past the 2 hour mark, but I wondered if this was still a bit of a long nap?
There have been a few mornings recently where he is waking nearer the 5am mark Shock and I just wondered if a shorter nap through the day might help?

I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience?

It goes against nature waking him from his naps when I am enjoying the peace, but think I could cope for an extra bit of zzzzzz in the morning!
Or maybe I shouldn't mess with his routine and appreciate the peace I do get.

Does he have blackout in his room?

Does he wake up cheerful?

How long has he been waking early for?

My DD is 2.3 and still sometimes naps for 2 hours.

There is an 18 mo sleep regression period that affects some children too.

Thanks for replying. Yep he does have a black out blind, and he wakes up full of beans and chatter and ready to go!
My dh gets up for work just after six, so our mornings have always verged on the early side, but I just worry it will creep earlier and earlier.
Ah maybe the 18 month thing is it then, it's only been the last couple of weeks that he has been up consistently super early. It normally varies a bit.
Glad to hear a two hour nap is still about normal - hate waking him up!

I would leave hi. To sleep longer, that's seems a long day for a little one...

Depends on your child.

My DD (19mo) sleeps for 1-1.2 hours in the day and 10 hours at night. She is fine from 6.30am to 8.30pm with only 1 hr of nap. in fact she's recently improved her night time sleeping too, which has coincided with reducing her nap (was closer to 2 hours before). We definitely find that a longer or later nap = earlier morning.

However, she just doesn't need much sleep, so the more she gets in the day, the less we get at night. This isn't the case for all (most?) children!

Both mine stopped napping during the day completely at 18 months so I'm very jealous. DD slept well at night. DS still woke at 5ish....
Sorry - not much help Grin
