4.30am whinges!

For the past week 5.5month old has been crying from about 4.30am. It's a whingy cry rather than hungry or something seriously wrong, she's still partly asleep. If I get in quick and pat a bit and put white noise on she settles for 2-45mins then repeat. If I leave her it escalates until she's properly crying and awake.

Any ideas what to try?

The only change before this started was the intro of a 7am feed (for various reasons, back to work soon etc).. Now I end up feeding her around 6 to shut her up and then she's either up for the day or sleeps fine for another hour or so..

Advice appreciated

Is her room blacked out? Could it be the early- morning light waking her?

We have a black out blind so it is pretty dark..

Could she be thirsty? Not sure where you are, but it's been really hot here lately. Maybe try a small amount of water when the whinges first start. May mean you can then put off feeding her til 7.

DS (just coming up to 5 months) has been doing this for a few weeks now, always at 3.30/4.30! We find he usually just settles himself or we do the old shush and pat or give him a dummy (don't judge me!) and he falls back asleep. Rarely it will turn into a full-on cry.

I mentioned it to the HV and she suggested it's possibly sleep regression or linked to his latest round if jabs (they started around then and are becoming less frequent). She wasn't concerned so we're not worrying and hoping it will pass!

How's it going? Did the water help at all?

Rachie1986 · 21/06/2014 07:26

Yes! She woke night before last at 5, unsettled etc. It was warm and I was thirsty so thought she might be too. She took a good couple of ozs of water, would have had more but I'm not sure how much is good for her at that age? Anyway managed to settle her and she slept til feed time. Hopefully that's it cracked... Well see!

Thanks again :-)
