Commuting with a toddler - nap times?

I am considering my options in terms of returning to work when baby is around a year. It seems the only viable childcare would be at my workplace. This would involve putting him in the car for an hour at 7am and another hour at 5.30pm and I'm concerned that I'll end up either with him sleeping in the car and then having disturbed nights due to odd nap times, or being wide awake (esp in the morning) and being difficult in the car.

Any thoughts or has anyone done anything similar?

Being a fulltime mum or looking for another job are options too so don't be afraid to be honest if you think this sounds like a silly idea!

If my son's not tired he won't sleep in the car, he's gone 2 hours in the car before and not slept - and he'd been awake for a while by then too. He usually doesn't get grouchy until an hour into the journey. Toys/ music all help. Maybe your son is the same.

I'd say however that nursery is tiring and he may well fall asleep on the way back. Could you get him ready for bed before you set up for an easy transfer once home?
