Moving 2 1/2yo to cotbed - will we need a bedguard?

Am borrowing the cotbed - not sure if it has raised sides or anything - do they usually? If not, can we manage without a bedguard do you think? DD1 is 2y 7m.

It'll depend on whether she's a wriggler at night or not. DD is and always has been. The first night we put her in a bed she fell out about 5 times, so we ended up putting the mattress on the floor until we got a bedguard.

We changed DD's cotbed from cot to bed at about 23 months. It was nice and low and we've never bothered with a bedguard. Think she has only fallen out twice and that was recently (she's now 3.6)
It also took her about 2 weeks to work out that she could get up and come and find us after we had put her to bed!! A few nights of 'rapid return' worked wonders

DD is 2.3 and needs her bed guard even though she is in a sleeping bag. She managed to fall between the guard and the bed on holiday and get trapped. And fell out of bed on the ferry because of having no guard.

tessasmum, is there any more to 'rapid return' than the name implies?

Thanks for all the replies.

Just changed my 3 year old boy's cotbed to the bed and he has been fine, we were dreading it as we were sure he would either fall out or start getting out of bed every 5 mins but so far (fingers crossed) he hasn't done either and actually seems really happy in his big boy's bed.
