Is it still ok to swaddle?

Just that really, when I had my girl 2 years ago, I'm sure it was recommended (I didn't however) but I've read something about restricting growth/hip problems.

My 12 week old wriggles so much he kicks of blankets, hits himself in face and generally wakes himself so I've wrapped him up a few times....Should I??

12 weeks is late to start swaddling, so he might not like it, but if he does, then that's the way to go.

At 12 weeks I would try swaddling just one arm.

Just see what he likes best. If he hates being swaddled, try a baby sleeping bag so he doesn't kick the blankets off.

Yes he seems happy and comfy (aww and cuddly!) so long as I tuck the blanket under him so he doesn't wriggle out!

I got conflicting advice depending on which midwife I was speaking too. I think as long as it isn't super tight it is fine. I used a thing called a woombie (little zip up swaddle).

PFB and all. :-)

If he likes it, then go ahead, it's perfectly safe. Smile

The advice is not to swaddle due to over heating and it can restrict hip development causing problems.

I also remember reading that swaddling when they are a bit older, if they are not used to it,can increase the risk of sids.
