Obvs I know no one can give me a precise answer, but are there lots of British babies that sleep through (and continue to do so) at three months??? Did yours? Did all your friends' ?

I ask because I live in France, am British with a french partner. Our children were not good sleepers and we are seen as freaks of nature amongst our french friends here. All the french babies we know all apparently start sleeping through around the 3 month mark, there's no mention of 4 month sleep regression or whatever and most of them apparently sleep from 830 til 830!

I find this odd as I would say at least half of my British friends have bad sleeper! My dp doesn't believe it when I say British kids doing sleep like this and things it's just the people I'm friends with!

I have a 7 week old and she has been sleeping from 10:30/11pm untill 6:30/7am since 4weeks, I think I'm just very lucky. But she did only wake once during the night from birth anyway. All babies are different another mum I meet the other day has a 3 month old and still wakes every 2.5 hours :-( x

Mine slept through (11-12 hours) from 3 months and also a lot during the day but she was just a sleepy little girl. I would say about half of my friends had babies sleeping through at 3-5 months, and the rest settled into sleeping through between 6 months and a year ish. I have one friend with a 21 month old who is not yet sleeping through.

Do they push BF as much in France? A friend of mine noticed that when she moved from breast to bottle her DD slept through when she hadn't before. Maybe it's got something to do with that. My DD has slept through since 5 weeks and she's bottle fed (lactose intolerance)

BF is encouraged lightly but not considered a big deal. Most women here stop by 12 weeks.

My little boy slept through the night (10 til 7) from 8 weeks old and he is ebf. However, he has never really napped during the day so I think he just liked sleeping at night. Never done controlled crying or anything like it and fed on demand throughout the night, he just didn't want it. He is considered an oddity at my breastfeeding group though.

Maybe the sleeping coincides with when they move to bottle? Apparently that's quite common.

My ebf ds started to do 7/8 hour stretches around 2 months. Then regressed for a few weeks around 3/4 months waking several times a night. This then got better to waking twice a night then once, then at about at about 5.5 months he started to consistently sleep between 10-12 hours without waking. Now 7 months and is sleeping 7pm -6/7am . Just to put a bit of perspective on things as a few of the posts here may slightly support the case that a bottle fed baby is more likely to sttn.

Have you read 'Why French Children Don't Throw Food". It by a British woman who has a baby whilst living in France and compares children are raised and develop. Its hilarious and there is a whole chapter on this very phenomenon. She also interviews experts and refers to published research and popular child development books. Sounds like its a must read for you!
