Hysterical at bestin

DS is almost 8mo. For the last 2 weeks he's become hysterical when he goes into the cot at bedtime.

We've had the same bedtime routine since he was about 4 months - music & BF, into grobag and story, then into cot. Myself or DH stays in the room with him till he falls asleep.

He stopped feeding to sleep at about 4.5 mo.

He's trying desperately to crawl during the day and sometimes he's in the cot on all fours roaring his head off. He doesn't want to be cuddled/rocked/patted/BFed and after the hysterics he finally falls asleep.

He has 6 teeth and I don't think there's any more on the way at the moment. This cry is different to his teething cry though!

I hate hearing him screaming like this :(

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences? TIA.

Both mine did this at a similar age - would pull themselves up to standing over and over and over again whilst wailing because they were soooo tired. It is hard work but it passes.

It could be separation anxiety? Will he take a dummy? It could bring him some extra comfort right now.

Try not to worry, it will just be a phase. As long as you are there comforting him in any way you can, he won't come to any harm.

Thanks for the feedback!

He doesn't have a dummy but he sucks his thumb sometimes and strokes his hair.

I'm hoping it's just a phase and it passes soon :(
