Why does DS wake every 30 mins all evening?!!

6mo DS is a happy little boy and goes down easily each night between 6.30-7. He will then sleep for anything between 30mins and one hour before waking. This pattern repeats until he knocks himself out with exhaustion about 11pm. Will then wake two or three times before morning. About a month ago we could leave him on waking and he would settle back down to sleep again himself but he seems to have list the ability to do this. Does anyone have any helpful advice or suggestions? It's driving DH and I insane and we rarely have an evening together. Thanks

If he's not making it through a whole sleep cycle (30 min waking would suggest this) then I think its not a self settling issue.

Could he be teething?
Have you started weaning? This could cause digestive discomfort.
Too hot or cold?
Anything changed recently?

I think there's a growth spurt at 6 months too. Could he be hungry?

Hope you find the answer soon.

Are you me? We're having the exact same problem with DD who is 28 weeks (ish - I've lost count!). When she wakes all she often wants is a cuddle, but sometimes I have to feed her once or twice (after not doing any night feeds for months).

I think it's a combination of sleep regression, weaning, so being hungry for milk at funny times, wind/constipation (due to new foods), teeth, and separation anxiety.

I hear it passes ... We've been at it about 2 weeks.

Our DD does the same while teething and then it settles back down again once the tooth is through.

My dd is the same if she has had crap naps during the day. If she manages two good naps she swill sleep like a log.

Today she had crap naps = me having crisp sleep all night Sad

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Yes, he is teething and the first tooth made an appearance about a week ago. We've also been weaning for three weeks so this could also be in the mix. Anything, we have the same thing on waking - often just wants a cuddle but sometimes I give in and feed. It did occur to me that a bit of separation anxiety could be in there too. Hopefully this phase will pass soon...!!

OP - she randomly went from 8.30-7am this morning! Just out if the blue. I hope it continues, but at least it gives us both some hope.

Have you tried a later bed time?

Mine is like this at 13 months, feed to sleep, up crying hard 20/30 mins later.
She moans loads in the night too and starts up at about 4.45/5am most mornings. She will often settle on DH's shoulder but not for me.
At wits end.
