DS won't settle at night

Help! Nearly 12 week old DS just cannot settle himself to sleep in the evening. During the day he usually has 2-3 naps - either he drops off after a feed or in his pram while we're out (the naps can range from 20 mins up to about 3 hours) but in the evenings he gets cranky and overtired but just won't sleep. I've tried feeding him to sleep in a darkened room and rocking him but he generally cries and grizzles until about 10.30/11pm when he finally nods off. Once asleep he will get up for a feed every 2-3 hours but has no problem drifting off afterwards. It's just the initial getting himself to sleep that's a killer and means we don't get an evening. Any tips on how to help him settle?

I think 10ish was my DD's natural bedtime at that age - it got earlier quite quickly from this point, just going with the flow of when she dropped off. I think we started aiming for a 7pm bedtime with a set routine from around 4 months and it took a couple of weeks to fall into place but is still her natural falling-asleep time at 7 months. Doesn't stay asleep, mind you...

Sorry, meant to say stick with it for a few more weeks and you'll probably find he drops off earlier without you doing anything.
