ok how do i do this?

my ds is almost 17 months old and from day one has fallen asleep on the boob or the bottle i have got him off the bottle a few days ago the problem is he wont go to sleep on his own he has to be held with me holding his beaker till hes asleep or he is cuddled to sleep i have tried putting him in his cot with his milk but when hes drank half of it he realises im not there and screams i try not picking him up and giving him his milk but he wont have it! so any tips or advice greatley welcome thanks!!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Is there really a problem with him being cuddled to sleep or do you just think that you "shouldn't" do it - rod for your own back etc?
My Ds2 was breastfed to sleep for the first year or so of his life, then he managed with being cuddled and rocked for about the next 18 months and now he's fine if you put him in bed and sing to him until he goes to sleep.
I'm sure he'll go to sleep on his own at some point (in fact, sometimes he does) but I don't think it's worth getting in a stress about

my daughter is nearing two, i got her into her routine early on. i'd put her in her cot, if she cried, id give her a hug and put her down again and stayed in the room with her until she fell asleep.
just let him cry it out at first. give him 10 min, if he hasnt settled, give him a hug to reassure him and put him down again. do this until he has fallen asleep. it worked for my daughter. good luck

its not a problem me putting him to bed its just that sometimes it can take up to a hour to settle him and hes bloody heavy 2 stone! and he will only go to sleep with me if dp tries it takes even longer and ds playes dp up and you get a over tired little boy
