Argh!! I need sleep!

Well... he's 6 months, and somehow we ended up with "attachment parenting". I love my baby, I love my sling, and what with that and very enthusiastic goddaughters... he has ended up being held most of the time for the last 6 months.

He used to settle himself off to sleep with a bit of whinging, but ok.

Then he got very attached to mummy, and I started feeding him to sleep because it was easier...

Now he is waking through the night every 1 1/2 - 2 hours because he stirs, can't settle himself, and wants me.

I'm exhausted (as you can imagine).

I have tried controlled crying (as settling himself whinging was what he preferred as a teeny tot), but can't leave longer than 10 mins unless I have a lot of alcohol!

I have started trying pu/pd but he seems to have twigged that cry = pu, so I can't see it working.

Suggestions???

What's this no-cry sleep thingy that I hear about?

Hi Flamey...must admit that I stuck with the CC and it did work. Was bloody awful the first time but works like a dream now. Its up to you of course what you can cope with but just a bit of personal experience!

Sorry - went out yesterday and never got back to this. He is in our room, in a crib, which he sleeps in during the day. With him waking so often in the night still it doesn't seem fair for DD to have him with her yet.

Last night went much better... I swaddled him for the first time in months, and he only woke for feeding He still seems to want to be fed a lot during the night (every 3 hours), but it was sooo much better than it has been!!!

flamey whats his day pattern? whens his last sleep / nap before bedtime and what time is bedtime?

Flamey · 25/08/2006 11:09

His pattern has been all up in the air lately. On a normal routine though he will have a nap between about 11 - 12/1pm, and another from about 4-5pm (if we are at home - at Psycho's house it all changes).

Bedtime is at 7.30pm - earlier and it is bad for us (and he isn't ready), later, and he gets into overtired.

He seems able to settle himself to sleep ok during the day, and last night when I swaddled him (just swaddled again now and he was out cold the second I lay him down), its just that he can't seem to do it when he wakes in the night midfeed.

I've tried a sleeping bag, and it doesn't seem to make much difference. If anything he seems to prefer the weight of the blanket - sleeps very still so no kicking it off.
