When did you stop swaddling?

Have been swaddling ds (using a miracle blanket) since birth and it's been fantasic - sleeping through almost from the start. He'll be 3 months soon though and I believe I should be thinking of stopping swaddling, or at least switching to half swaddle about now but i'm dreading it. He has started to escape through the night but all i have to do to settle him (he doesn't actually wake fully - just thrashes around) is re-wrap him. No idea how i'll settle him without it. He flings his arms around lots which is what unsettles him when he's unswaddled so don't think a half-swaddle will make much difference. Anyone carried on swaddling for more than 3 months?

Yes, I think my ds was about 5 months. We moved to the half-swaddle (arms out) and then moved him into a gro-bag, wasn't very traumatic at all. I think when they're ready they're ready, so keep going until you feel the time is right.

we did it for about 4 months I think and then switched to a gro-bag

Thanks - will keep going for a few weeks then try the grobag

MY DS still swaddled at 6 months - he is arms out by morning unless shattered!

Hi Cmac, just wanted to add that our DS was swaddled in a miracle blanket till around 4 months -we too were dreading it but he went into a grobag with no problems at all. Hope it all goes well.
