Unrealistic expectations or not?

Is it unrealistic of me to expect my 7 month old baby to get herself to sleep for naps? I'm trying to stop feeding her to sleep for naps. It's becoming less effective and I want to start introducing a bottle during the day.

I've been taking her to her room and pulling down the blind and sitting on the chair quietly then saying my phase and putting her in cot.

Cue screaming and crying that goes on and on and on....

Should she be able to go off on her own? I know the answers yes. Isn't it?

Well, mine can't. I recebtly registered with a nursery and said as much, expecting a lecture but they said ut's normal and they wouldn't expect her to yet..

...I feed mine to sleep or put her in sling or buggy.

No, both mine were fed to sleep by me or cuddled to sleep by DH before (maybe! ) being put down till about at least age 1. Unless in car/pram/sling.

mine will go to sleep... In her carseat in the living room. I pop her in and she takes a blanket and dummy and off she goes. There would be merry hell if I tried her cot in the day though.
She's breast fed but she rarely feeds to sleep.

My two never did.
Aged 2.

Thanks everyone. You've made me feel SO much better. I'm expecting too much I think. I'll hang in there and assist her to sleep for a little while longer.

Maybe try pick up put down after a good bedtime nap routine. Also avoid overtiredness

TeWiSavesTheDay · 10/04/2014 22:11

Mine never napped nicely until about 1 when they seemed to get the idea.

No, mine didn't until about 18 months. Had to feed or rock until then, or sleep in the car or pram. According to my mum I was exactly the same. My younger sister however loved her sleep and hardly needed any settling at all. My mum would put her down, run to the look, and come back 1 minute later to find her asleep in the cot. That simple. She also slept through the night by about 6 weeks. Me, not until 2. Likewise my DD. Just goes to show how different babies can be.

Glider chair was a lifesaver for rocking heavy toddler!
