Night terrors? Nightmares?

DT1 has for last couple of weeks woken up crying and calling for mummy or daddy at around 3am. I was thinking it was just a habit / reassurance thing (and a spanner in the works of otherwise sleeping great) but last night I went in and she really didn't seem to hear me - crying hysterically. It went on for about 10 minutes and she rolled over and went back to sleep.

Could this be night terrors or a nightmare and what's the difference?

She is 2.8.

Sounds more like night terrors. Detailed explanation is here, but essentially, for night terrors they don't properly wake up and won't remember next day. Nightmares they can wake up from, can be soothed and are quite likely to remember.

Thanks Moonlight, I think it is night terrors in that case.

MoonlightandRoses - sorry to interrupt, but I've tracked you down to your most recent post to ask if you could help us at the following thread with your riddle:
I am linked to five, yet all alone. Genderless, I wandered the sand. Who am I?
