Need advice - don't have a clue

Hi
I've been lurking for 9 months now by baby is 7 weeks old!

I'm a first time mum and really struggling with the (not) sleeping thing.

My ds is waking twice or 3 times a night - is this normal? Sick of people in rl acting shocked when I say he is not sleeping through the night !

My question is this : do they always want milk when they wake you up? He is ff and goes for 4 hours during the day but at night 2 or 3 hours. Last night was bad it was hourly on occasion. I offered the bottle but he only would take half , if that. So didn't seem hungry. He doesn't cry out just thrashes around in his Moses basket cooing and grunting. My dp annoyingly nudges me awake every time the baby murmurs. Should I be ignoring my ds unless he cries or soothing back to sleep , or keep,on offering the bottle ?

Help I am clueless and very sleep deprived

Yes if he is only murmuring then don't get him out of cot and now that you have tried feeding him you know he isn't waking up for a feed.

My dd2 is now 7 weeks and only has 1 bottle through the night some night none at all . She does wake up and has a little wiggle in her cot but I leave her and she's falls back asleep .

Know how it feels being a new mum we all do you you jump up at the smallest noise and panic over nothing lol . Just relax let baby have a wiggle and see if he nods of on his own .

Ps if he wanted a feed he would let you know about it. don't worry what other people are saying a outing sleep through.

every baby is different and he will get there . Just a question do you turn light on when feeding or when he wakes ?

I have a nightlight that I sometimes use but nothing bright. Most times don't use that. But I do bring him downstairs with me to fetch the bottle , and sometimes change his nappy as I worry he will be wet and uncomfortable. You can see I worry about everything haha

I bath him at 6 then put him down to sleep , is that too early?

He has no problem sleeping peacefully during the day !

I forgot about this. My LO used to make terrible grunting noises during his sleep at that age. Not anything wrong with him, perfectly normal, but I never lifted him until he cried.

Thanks . Think the problem here is my dp - he wakes me up to tell me the baby is awake lol. Maybe he needs good ear plugs :-)

I would try not to take him down the stairs as this may wake him up more . Don't worry about his nappy just feel it you will know when it needs changing that way . For the feed look into the feed the world section for ideas . What I do is boils kettle before I go to bed and put the water in bottle take up with me and put milk is a dispenser and when she is due for feed I just put milk in bottle and shake.
Done this with my dd1 to and never any tummy problems . Once the water is in the bottle it's fine for 24 hours but please as I say above look on feed the world section .

my dd can wake easily six or seven times a night and we're eight months in. I'd say your wee one is doing just fine.. He might not be hungry but just looking for some comfort. I don't think a baby of that age should be sleeping through Tbh but I hoe it gets better for you... and not worse like it did for us! ! x

I've had a surprise quite late in life ( happy surprise ) and shocked to see he didn't come with instructions lol

11 months old and down to 2 wake ups a night, so I'd say at 7weeks you're doing well!!

Ditto the above - 9 months and two feeds, you are doing everything fine by the sounds of things! Whatever aeg the baby is you'll meet insensitive idiots (sorry , but they are) who make you feel inadequate and that your baby should be sleeping through. Babies do what they do.

OP he maybe finds the basket uncomfortable, my DD did the exact thing and when I moved her into the cot in our room at 8 weeks she slept a lot more peacefully and didnt grunt and thrash as much.
You can buy wee nests for the cot for when they're tiny so with my next baby, due in 10 weeks, they will be going straight into the cot at night and only naps in the basket downstairs.

Babies are REALLY noisy. My DS is 15weeks and has grunted, growled, cooed and yarled through every night so far. I found moving him into his cot really helped, even though it's just across the room he seemed easier to ignore!!- If it helps my DS went from 3 to 2 night wakings after his jabs at 8 weeks, from 2 to 1 between 8 and 12weeks then dropped the last night feed after his 12 week jabs. They just seen to get him "out of the habit" of waking- or rather when he wakes he doesn't need anything so just goes back to sleep.
My OH wakes up far more than me (a few of my friends have found this too) to the little grumbles- presumably as I hear them all day. I think you should ignore your dp if he's the one waking you!!!!
