Strange sleeping position!!!!

DS (six months) is asleep on his front with arms outstretched and knees bent up under him (ie bum in the air) he CAN'T be comfortable ...can he!?!?! He usually wears washable nappies but slack washing has required him to be in a disposable..I wonder dodgy positioning is because he can bend his legs better.
Is it safe for them to sleep on their front at six months?

I've got photos of both my dds sleeping in this position at this age (or a little older)
Once they can get in and out of a position themselves, there is no point trying to keep turning them over.

My 18 mth DS sleeps like this sometimes - apparently it gives good airflow to your lungs according to a doc I know

Thank you...he's good at rolling onto front but not so good at getting back again...so I worry that he got stuck and got too knackered to move. Seems to be breathing ok but looks really strange!

He's fine like that - it's really common! Dd used to sleep that way from about 3 months until she was about 3, with her bum in the air, ankles crossed and her nose pressed into the mattress.
