Is 6am an acceptable wake up time - do I just put up with it?

DS 12 months wakes up every morning at about 6am without fail. He goes to bed between 7 to 7.30 (always in the cot by 7 but takes up to half an hour to fall asleep). He then sleeps through till about 6.

He has 2 naps a day which used to be 1 to 1.5 hours each but seems to be changing over the past week (although he does have a cold and I think hes teething which isnt helping). Today he had 45 minutes this morning between 9.30 to 10.15 and I put him down for a second nap at 2 and hes just waking up now.

The 6am wake up has been going on for about a month now. Sometimes if I leave him he will go back to sleep but 9 out of 10 times thats him up for the day. My question is do you think he should be having a longer night time sleep or should I think myself lucky he sleeps through until then?

Reduce nap times. Perhaps you could drop morning sleep and move to 1 lunch time sleep (what I did with my DS at that age) He slept for about 2 hours, and started s;leeping later in the mornings. They need 12-14 ish hours sleep at this age, if they get too much in the day they will sleep less at night! Just had to reduce DS (now 2) nap to an hour as stareted waking early again

dd (now 2.3) did that (and still does kind of) - actually, it was usually a bit earlier at that age. It has gotten better. What I've done is kept her in her cot (it's a pretty big cot and she's in a grobag as well) and put in some toys and she can usually last 20-30 minutes without us needing to go in. She usually needs us to go in between 6.30 and 7.00. She actually demanded to be put back into the cot with her toys this morning so she went back in for 20 minutes while I pottered about!
