DS wakes at night

Hi. I'm new to mums net and looking for some advice. My daughter (19 months) sometimes wakes in the night (or takes ages to go to sleep in evening) and can be awake for a couple of hours. Luckily we have a video monitor as she doesnt makes a sound. I never know if she has poo'd or been woken by something and just struggling to get back to sleep. Problem being as soon as I go in her room, she cries and cries when I leave, whether she has poo'd or not. I then have to rock her back to sleep. When she wakes now I dont know if I should check if she poo'd or not as we then have a very long night but wouldn't want her to sleep in it. She never cries when I put her to bed in evening, in fact often asks to go to bed. Has anyone had this problem?

if your dd isn't crying, I probably wouldn't go in to her tbh.

When you go in, she is probably thinking it's time to get up so is then upset when it's not.

I would say a very small percentage of parents have video monitors so never know if their dc are happily awake during the night, do you really need it?

If she is upset, wouldn't she let you know?

I try not to go in, but in the past she has had a dirty nappy then after a while gone back to sleep, but at no point cried out. Last night for example she took an hour and half to fall asleep in the evening but made no noise at all, I only knew due to the video monitor. I just had a feeling she may of had a dirty nappy so went in to check on her once she dropped off and sure enough a dirty nappy. I then had to wake and change her and she didn't go back to sleep until 5am - despite my rocking or leaving her to cry, no matter what I tried. Normally I give her 2 hrs during the night of being awake before going in to see if it's a dirty nappy. In The past I have found her in the morning with a dirty nappy that had clearly been there for several hours leaving her bottom sore for days :-(

Would she feed herself a little warm milk while you changed her?
Might help her drop off.

Yeah, really struggle with what time do.

Yes, I could try the milk, even if she wakes and turns out she hasnt dirtied her nappy; I was just a bit worried about her wanting milk each time she wakes at night; though it doesn't happen too frequent

Oh, I thought you meant you could smell that she needed a change, not that you were checking as a matter of course.

Um, yeah I'm not sure then.
