Starting to swaddled at 5 months?

My son is in the midst of 4-month sleep regression (still!) and I think one of the many factors preventing him from settling when we put him down, and self-soothing after he wakes during the night, is the fact that he flails around like a mad thing and wakes himself up all the time as his arms drop towards the mattress...and then whizz up again, startling him back awake.

We swaddled him when he was very tiny and he seemed to quite like it, but then started with a gro-bag when he was a couple of weeks old. Having failed to find any gro-bags for his weight range/age with straitjacket arms, I'm wondering whether I could go back to swaddling him with big aden + anais muslins.

On the plus side, it'll also mean that he won't be able to grab his dummy and pull it out, but on the flip side if the coin, he won't be able to put it back in (which he's very close to doing) or suck his hands to self-soothe.

Has anyone had success starting swaddling at such a late stage? Any advice very much appreciated!

I think its not advised. You could try a v light grobag and a sheet tucked in? (Also not advised!!). Good luck.

Thanks Alanna! I've just swaddled him in two big Mmuslins and he went off to sleep pretty much straight away, but now I'm sitting downstairs terrified that he's going to wriggle free and get caught up in them....

I guess a safer option would be to wrap him in one muslin, then put a thin gro-bag on top of that.
