Safe co-sleeping

When I read a post from a bf-ing mum about not getting enough sleep, I often see responses advising co-sleeping, and it seems lots of you are doing it.

My dd is 5 weeks old, and ebf, and I am currently considering co-sleeping as a way of getting more sleep.

I have looked at some advice about safe co-sleeping, but am a little confused- if your bed is in the middle of the room and you don't put a pillow at the side, how can you be sure the baby won't suddenly learn to roll and fall out of bed?

(Sorry if this is a stupid question) my DH says that we shoud put a pillow at the edge of the bed to stop her falling out, but the guidance says not to for fear of her suffocating... What do other (more experienced) people do?

I don't actually want to co-sleep until I'm convinced that the method I will use is safe (although I realise it's not recommended, but you know what I mean!)

please advise. TIA.

maybe use a side guard made of soft fabric mesh? just an idea. I'm thinking of getting a co-sleeper crib you attatch to the side of the bed so baby is within reach but still got their own space/safety

We cosleep with our twins. I'd really recommend reading 'three in a bed', it's got all the evidence based ideas in. We were desperate when we started co sleeping, went out and bought a superkingsized bed and put the girls in between us. I shoved a pillow in between the mattress and headboard and switched to two single duvets so they couldn't get trapped under a duvet. Best thing we did! They're now two and we get such good sleep (till 8.30am) we can't bring ourselves to change anything.

I have a bed bumper from Purple Daisies. My baby is 7 months and not crawling so it works perfectly for us. He barely rolls in his sleep tbh, but it gives me peace of mind when he's on the edge side, and when I'm there it gives me some lovely back support while I'm on my side feeding/sleeping.
