We are currently trying to convince DD to get herself to sleep. She's 2 and a half and we are still cuddling her to sleep every night, sometimes it can take over an hour for her to drop off. We're about to start trying for DC2 and ideally I'd really like to be able to read bedtime story and then leave her to fall asleep by herself.

So this evening DP read bedtime story, said night night and left. That was 20 mins ago, she has already been up out of bed at least 30 times! She gets up as soon as we put her back in.

Any tips? Anyone else tried this with a toddler? Please share your success stories!

So far she's changing between saying she doesn't want to go to sleep by herself and whinging a bit, and laughing because she thinks it's funny.

Can't offer help but can saythay we still pat/hand hold/lie next to 18mo DS. Can take over an hour and he cries and gets sooooo upset and angry if we leave the room. Sometimes happy for one of us to sit by door but have never managed to leave the room with him awake. Not sure what solution is...
