1 year old sleeping on pillows

Please help settle an argument with me and DP.
Our 1 year old sleeps with us, which I'm happy with but DP would rather we didn't have DS sleeping with us. He has slept in his cot, but I think now its winter his bedroom is too cold and he'd rather have our heat, he did do a couple of nights in his travel cot in our room before he wouldn't be put down in it again. He does sleep in travel cots if he sleeps at my mums or MILs houses, but they're much warmer than we can get our home.
DP has now decided that DS won't sleep in his travel cot because its not comfy enough for him and has wedged three pillows into the cot to make a pillowy mattress thing, so his head is on one pillow, body on the next and feet on the bottom and between them they cover the whole travel cot. I can't exactly say why it doesn't feel right, I just see him getting all tangled up in these pillows when he wriggles about at night and them being unsafe. DP then said he'd put a bottom sheet on so he can't get tangled, but it doesn't make me feel any better.
So would you be happy with this sleeping arrangement, and if not can I have a real reason I can verbalise to my DP because he's not taking "I don't feel comfortable with it" as an answer. Looking at DS he does look comfy and is happily asleep in there, but I have a knot in my stomach about something bad happening in the night.

i would get a mattress to put on top of the travel cot mattress but pillows as a mattress would be too soft and if he got wedged face down on them he could suffocate. You are right and it is not safe.

Put your cot into your room

Put an oil filled heater into babys room

Use warm fleecy pjs for ds

Any sleeping arrangement that makes you feel uncomfortable or uneasy is not suitable for your LO. You are right to be concerned anyway; even at this age your DS could become trapped or wedged under the pillow and might not wake himself when not getting enough oxygen.

Travel cot mattresses are rubbish so a 1 year old probably does need some extra padding - I tend to put a quilt under the sheet but you can get travel cot sized mattresses.

That doesn't sound very safe. Pillows are too squishy & he could still, even at this age, suffocate in them. SIDS can still (rarely) occur up to a year old.

Travel cot mattresses are very uncomfortable so could you not just buy a new one? Or move his actual cot into your room?

You can buy a proper mattress for travel cots. We got one for about £20. I agree that pillows sound unsafe. My MIL tried to set up a similar arrangement hence why we got the mattress.
