16 month old waking up crying...

DD is very healthy & happy, and (finally!) sleeps quite well: 1.5 hours after lunch, 11 hours at night.

But she always wakes up crying and it takes a few minutes with us cuddling her and chatting to her before she is her usual happy self.

Just wondering if this is normal at this age? I hear others talk about their toddlers happily babbling / playing in their cot. Could it be that she needs more sleep?

TIA

Hi.

My DS is 16 months and sleeps well and the same amount as your LO... He doesn't wake crying but if I'm a bit slow to get to him (1 min or more) he starts bouncing and crying. And takes a min or two to get over it. Saying that he is sometimes crys before he is even up and other days (maybe once every two weeks) we can hear him talking to monkey.... But this doesn't last long and is soon up and 'calling' me!

When we were transitioning from two naps to one lots of his peers would babble in there cot rather than sleep for the dropped nap but if he wasn't tired and he didn't want to be there he would just go mental!!

I think its normal, not needing more sleep, they have been on there own 11 hours and prob jut want to know we are near!

Sure it won't last! Xx

Thank you Marsha! Yes, you're probably right and they're just keen to see us!

Sometimes I wonder whether it's time to take down the sides of the cot as she does seem to cheer up as soon as her feet are on the floor, but that would bring a whole new set if questions, like will she fall out if bed during the night, does she need to stop using a grobag then etc?

Thanks again Smile

My 15 month old cries when she wakes and its take her a good five minutes before she is back to her usual happy self. I think it just takes her a while to transition from sleep to being awake. That said she will not be in her cot unless asleep. She won't sit and play or anything even if I'm in the room. She hates it!
